History
Jacksonville University has a long and storied history in the city of Jacksonville. Founded in 1934 by William J. Porter as a two-year institution, it was known then as William J. Porter University before becoming Jacksonville Junior College in 1949. In 1956, it changed its name again to Jacksonville University and began offering four-year degrees.
Today, the university is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs across seven colleges and schools within the university.
